NEWS Eligible residents will be matched with a Health Ambassador, an upskilled community care provider with digital health skills, who collaborate with virtual clinicians to deliver as much care as possible in the home setting. The Health Ambassador care platform will bridge gaps in home care and primary care for residents who do not have a family doctor, and for patients who require an alternate level of care (ALC), rather than keeping them in the hospital. Across Canada, approximately 15% of acute-level care beds in hospitals are filled by ALC patients due to a lack of structural support for care within their own homes. New initiative aims to close healthcare gaps in rural Ontario through in-home care powered by AI technology Gotcare, a national health technology start-up reimagining health services in the home, has partnered with Quinte Health and the Reach Alliance at the University of Toronto to launch their AI-enabled Health Ambassador care platform in the Hastings region. DIGITAL, Canada’s Global Innovation Cluster for digital technologies, is providing co-investment of $1.5m to support the total $3.1m initiative. The organizations are working together to ensure that no resident gets left behind. Gotcare plans to bring its AI-enabled triage and health monitoring tools into residents’ homes, starting in North Hastings. The organizations are working together to decrease the Hastings region’s longer than usual wait times for primary care and home care, due to a lack of workers in these fields. This is unfortunately common for rural regions, as only eight percent of doctors in Ontario work outside of urban centres. “How residents are doing in the home has been a black box for clinicians, health organizations, and care funders. Historically, this makes timely, cost-saving interventions tricky,” said Gotcare CEO and co-founder Chenny Xia. “I am confident that we will provide data-driven insights to help set a new standard for technology-enabled rural care.” Gotcare Health Ambassadors will work closely with Quinte Health staff and in collaboration with community health providers with the Hastings Prince Edward Ontario Health Team to monitor residents at home in order to spot health issues early and take action before critical care is required — especially for those who do not have a family doctor. “One of Quinte Health’s core values is, ‘imagine it’s you’,” said Gina Johar, Vice President and Chief Digital Officer of Quinte Health. “But with strained health care staffing, it can be difficult to ensure patients are getting the right care in the right place. By partnering with Gotcare, we can offer more support and early interventions to our patients — all from the comfort of their own home.” “DIGITAL is excited to build upon the over 5 years of investments we’ve made in applied AI with this latest announcement,” said Nadia Shaikh-Naeem, Vice President of Programs at DIGITAL. “Led by Gotcare, this consortium is helping build a more efficient, supported system of connection and access to care. We’re proud to co-invest alongside innovators like Gotcare and support partnerships such as these that are building on Canada’s global reputation in AI and bringing better care to more Canadians.” The Reach Alliance at the University of Toronto will uncover actionable insights about this health care model between Gotcare and Quinte Health. They will look at how it affects stakeholders, including patients and clinicians, as well as how home-based and early interventions create possible cost-savings for the health care system. The Reach Alliance can then make policy recommendations based on their real-time learnings from this partnership. “Innovative solutions addressing urgent public health challenges faced by last mile populations are a main research focus of the Reach Alliance,” said Marin MacLeod, Executive Director of the Reach Alliance. “We’re excited to partner with Gotcare and Quinte Health to better understand how innovative health care interventions can lead to improved health outcomes for geographically remote populations in Ontario.” Gotcare has been working on bringing health care to rural Canada for years now. With rural hospitals often existing 25 kilometres or more away from residents, the company has employed its Health Ambassadors across rural Canada to make health care more accessible. As Gotcare continues to expand on their work to bring health care to rural Canada, the company is committed to paying Health Ambassadors a living wage. Gotcare’s commitment to fair pay helps retain workers, which is especially important during a health care worker shortage.

Innovation in Business- Q2 2024 | 6 Most International PR & Advertising Agency 2024 - Berlin Leveraging an integrated approach to the field of communication and a suite of services in this area, mc Group is today inclusive of more than seven hubs and 80 agencies across every continent on the planet, serving clients in numerous sectors from business and politics right through to sport. The latter of these is where the business first got its start more than three decades ago, taking advantage of the strengthening link between sport and the advertising industry to become a sports marketer for some of the biggest events in the world. In these early years, the company, then known simply as Media Consulta, had the pleasure of overseeing communications at such major tennis tournaments as the ATP World Tour and Davis Cup, to name just a few, as well as working closely with Formula One, UEFA in the 1996 Euros, and finally, FIFA. In the case of the 1998 FIFA World Cup, the business even helped draw more eyes to one of the competition’s primary sponsors, electrical appliance manufacturer Braun, which benefited greatly from this global coverage. That same year, Media Consulta welcomed its first political client, and over the next couple of years, received lucrative contracts from the likes of the Brazilian Foreign Ministry and the UN, leading politics to eventually become the agency’s primary focus. 2000 saw not only a change in location, but also in name, with the company becoming mc Group and expanding its operation throughout UN countries. Subsequent years saw it implement the famous “Feel Free to Say No” smoking campaign, and the opening of numerous specialised agencies. This brings us to the present, where mc Group stands as one of the largest PR and advertising agencies in the sector, with this full-service marketer bringing together the most popular forms of communication to craft tailored, integrated, and successful mc Group is a storied full-service PR and advertising agency with a global client base. In 2011, Harald took over the brand on a global level, a journey that has seen him take mc Group from strength to strength. Innovation in Business- Q2 2024 | 7 Why AI Is Ushering In A New Era Of Pricing By Tracey Shirtcliff, founder and CEO of SCOPE Better, the Pricing Platform designed for professional services. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly prevalent. While it’s not yet doing the stuff of sci-fi, its applications are many and varied, from the purely process-driven to the generative, carving a space within all business sectors. And it’s amazing. It’s saving us all time and, often, money. Compliance is becoming easier, research faster, even traditionally creative processes are getting a helping hand. In many cases, it means that businesses can do more for less. But does this mean that the savings should be passed on to customers? The problem of AI and pricing The Simon-Kucher Institute estimates that around 20% of all professional services companies will have to change their pricing model within the next five years. Resultsbased pricing is difficult to implement, measure, and maintain. Subscription-based pricing carries a whole range of issues. And charging by the hour is not only outdated but with AI reducing the time and effort that goes into your billable tasks, it means you face reducing the bills you present to your clients to reflect the reduced time. Even if AI means that your work is getting faster and more accurate, you’re ultimately charging less for more. It isn’t fair, but it’s also an entirely avoidable scenario if you take control of your pricing model. And yet, despite the growing impact of AI, so far, 0% of firms have plans in place to change the way they price their services. Time/Effort-based pricing is such an ingrained part of professional business services billing that most people rarely consider it. But what does it mean? You’re charging your clients not for what you can do for them or give them but for the amount of time you spend doing it. And with AI, that form of quantification is simply no longer relevant. Instead, you need to be shifting the emphasis onto what you can deliver to your customer. Because when it comes down to it, the only thing your customers care about is the quality of the work you deliver, not how long it took you to complete it. The value of deliverable-based pricing With deliverable-based pricing – also known as output- or asset-based pricing – you are no longer dealing in time measurements and the perceived value of the individual responsible for each section of the allocated task. You charge for a cohesive and invaluable service – audits, cost and efficiency reports, TikTok takeovers, in-depth training bibles and one-to-one training sessions. Each item is meaningful and carries innate value for the client in a way that time/effort-based pricing never has. And when that becomes the case, how those tasks are completed and who they are completed by – senior account manager, intern, AI – becomes totally irrelevant. All that matters is that they are completed to the desired standard. But that raises the question of how to price your deliverables once you’ve taken the effort out of the equation. Moving into a deliverable-based pricing model Time and effort-based pricing is easy. You pick an hourly rate and multiply it. Job done. Moving away from that status quo understandably feels daunting. But change is inevitable, and when that’s the case, it’s better to make the move while you have the luxury of time, without competitive pressures to worry about. There are tools available – configure, price and quote (CPQ) software for one – but it comes down to getting to grips with exactly what your business does, understanding your past performance, and creating a framework to categorise your services. Do that, and you’ll soon put a price on each of the deliverables your company deals in. AI is changing a lot of things. And its impact is going to be amazing – it holds the potential to do so many incredible things for your business. But it will also mean that you have to rethink some of your established processes including pricing. Getting that right will have to be a priority if you want your business to receive the maximum benefit that AI can offer. Dec22426

May21135 Innovation in Business- Q2 2024 | 8 Caroline Gleeson, CEO at hiring software specialist: Occupop, says: “AI and automation technologies are becoming a part of everyday functioning in the workplace. While HR is deeply rooted in the people of your business, having these systems can actually help your HR department find more time to work with the staff and provide better support, with the right systems lightening the workload of administration tasks and paperwork.” In such a human-centric role, what can AI and automation technology do for your HR department? Applicant screening AI and automation technology can be useful in recruitment and talent acquisition processes. Using hiring software, your HR department can sort through high volumes of resumes in a shorter time, helping you fill crucial skill gaps quicker and assisting in finding the right people for your company. This automated software can be used to find the right applicants for your job role by screening resumes to filter out candidates who don’t have the experience or essential skills you’re looking for. This can help ensure you’re not spending excess time interviewing people with the wrong abilities or inexperience for the role – especially in higher-skill or crucial company roles. Onboarding Onboarding can involve a lot of paperwork, filling, and administration. By implementing AI and automated systems into this portion of your HR tasks, you’ll be able to spend more time integrating your new hires into the company culture and their roles rather than filling in the information. This can help streamline this process. An automated AI approach can also ensure your new starter gets everything needed for their new role, like training resources, videos, and guides, which AI can distribute to your new learner, depending on their job role and department head. Performance analysis Another way AI and automation can start revolutionising the workplace is by ensuring you’re getting the right metrics for performance analysis. AI and automated processes can use your company data to find the best performers within the company and those who might need additional support. This can also aid your finance team and heads of department when it comes to handing out bonuses. Automated processes can also aid in continuous feedback, analysing your company’s performance without bias, and understanding which areas need the most improvement. This real-time feedback means you can spend time working closely with the teams needing the most support. Self-service for employees Finally, AI can be useful for employees who need to ask questions, contact HR, and more. Implementing a self-service system can ensure that HR isn’t spending too much time answering the same questions, as you can set up a chatbot to assist with that. If your staff need answers to a more complex situation or question, then this system can also flag the need for human intervention from the HR team. It might also make your staff feel more comfortable alerting HR to personal and professional problems as they input the information without the need for human interaction, only prompting one-to-ones when you deem it necessary. In this way, staff can easily provide medical information, update personal information, or leave requests which can be picked up at the appropriate times. While HR is a human-centric role, focusing on giving the employees the protection they need, having the resources of AI and automated processes can be a large benefit. It can help you improve onboarding, recruitment, and performance analysis and ensure you’ve got more time to do the work that truly matters – attending to your staff. How AI and Automation Is Set to Revolutionise HR Departments The uses of AI are still being discovered across every industry and department. One department that can find plenty of use for AI and Automation is Human Resources. In fact, 81% of HR leaders have already explored or implemented AI into their processes. Nov22652

Innovation in Business- Q2 2024 | 12 The Beating Heart of Cardiac Device Development Specifically focused on developing disruptive, low-risk, and affordable implants for individuals suffering from resistant hypertension and heart failure, QHeart Medical has dedicated its efforts to serving a demographic of individuals who have no effective treatments. Their revolutionary approach to treating aortic stiffness are termed Aortic Recoil Repair implants, these devices essentially help to restore the expansion and contraction of the aorta, whose stiffness is primarily associated with hypertension and heart failure. These two conditions are major global health problems that are not effectively managed and left untreated cause a major reduction in quality of life, have a huge economic cost, and have an alarmingly high mortality rate. Founded by a selfless group of professionals who were determined to develop affordable cardiac implants, QHeart Medical is an innovative entity that promises to alleviate the strain placed on those with unserved heart conditions. Seeking to provide tangible treatments for resistant hypertension and heart failure, the group has developed two very innovative medical device implants to improve quality of life of millions of unserved patients worldwide. Join us as we explore how, in its pursuit of further brilliance, QHeart Medical has earned itself a place in Innovation in Business’s Top 10 feature. Thankfully, QHeart Medical has turned its attention to these major unserved patients. In QHeart Medical’s own words – “Resistant Hypertension (RH) and Hypertensive Heart Failure (HHF) are major global health problems with high incidence rates of 20%-33% and 2%-3.5% of the population respectively. HHF and RH have a huge global cost (Heart Failure >US$100b/y, Hypertension >US$200b/y).” To drastically reduce these staggering numbers, the company has set itself on a mission to provide treatment for these ailments, ultimately enhancing the quality of life across these patient populations in an effective and affordable manner. However, while most medical devices require external power or control systems to function as intended, QHeart Medical’s low risk products instead utilise a more passive dampening system to harvest energy with each pump of a patient’s heart. In doing so, they’re able to drastically reduce systolic blood pressure, before releasing the energy back into the aorta to elevate blood flow to many of the body’s major organs. Put simply, QHeart Medical has developed a line of medical devices that are able to greatly improve the lives of their users, while simultaneously reducing the need for emergency hospital admissions, minimising medication and treatment costs, and granting access to cost effective, low risk therapy solutions that boast a competitive edge in terms of performance. On the topic of QHeart Medical’s Surgical Aortic Recoil Repair device, the collective shared some fascinating statistics with us – “QHeart’s Surgical Aortic Recoil Repair (SARR) device is an ideal adjunct to around 700,000 scheduled open chest procedures per year in Europe and North America, and is indicated for use on 60% of these patients. Pilot first-in-man clinical testing of the SARR implant showed a Major Improvement in Blood Volume Pumped from the Heart: 25% to 29% improvement in cardiac output (CO), and a 21% to 41% increase in stroke volume (SV)”. Truly, QHeart Medical is on a path to having a significant impact on the world of cardiac medical devices, and it seems as though this is only the beginning. With exciting plans in place to develop a non-surgical device – otherwise known as the Transcatheter Aortic Recoil Repair (TARR) – that’s designed to be inserted via standard vascular access techniques, QHeart Medical certainly has a fascinating year ahead. QHeart Medical’s innovation clearly knows no bounds, and it’s leveraging its exceptional insights to create meaningful solutions that are sure to become a staple in medical practises in the near future. As such, Innovation in Business is proud to include QHeart Medical in our Top 10 feature, and we eagerly anticipate the next stage of this ambitious collective’s journey. May21135 Innovation in Business- Q2 2024 | 14 Market Demand Ever-rising healthcare costs are driven by the increasing prevalence of chronic diseases, such as diabetes, heart disease and cancer, which require ongoing treatment. There are two key problems which lead to deteriorating health outcomes and increased strain on hospital resources: Firstly, there is a lack of adherence to treatment plans, largely due to patients’ anxieties, legitimate concerns, and lack of understanding. Physicians should allay patients’ fears and concerns and help them make fully informed decisions about their own treatment, but they struggle to do this due to limited personnel. Secondly, outpatients are vulnerable to decline after discharge, but healthcare teams lack the information and systems needed to intervene in a timely manner. Inavya has developed Avatr Agentic AI to meet this growing market demand. Agentic AI refers to software systems that perform tasks, make decisions, and interact with their environment. Agentic AI for outpatients The Avatr patient conversation agent can converse with patients to help them with their healthcare tasks and improve health literacy. This builds patient confidence and increases adherence. The conversation agent provides illustrated and video answers based on the outpatient’s immediate concerns, current health status and care protocol set by the hospital. An agentic approach means that different specialist modules can support the conversation agent, with tools such as database query and tasks such as retrieving information, ensuring that all outpatient interactions are aligned with hospital best-practice and clinical data safety standards. With support from the British government and Microsoft, Inavya has developed AI services to support healthcare providers. Agentic AI for clinicians and researchers Healthcare providers and pharmaceutical R&D companies can streamline their operations with Avatr multidisciplinary teams of AI agents. Saving time and money, these teams automate workflows and enable improved decision-making. Innovation in Business- Q2 2024 | 16 Save a Life from Your Pocket For far too long, the fear and panic surrounding using a defibrillator has deterred the general populace from stepping in whenever someone has gone into cardiac arrest in a public space. After all, they don’t have the training, and there’s a very real possibility that they could make everything even worse. As a result, less than 1% of heart attack victims who have collapsed in a public space have survived – a gut wrenching statistic that opened the eyes of none other than CardioThrive. Responding to this heartbreaking truth, CardioThrive took it upon itself to generate a solution, and has now positioned itself as a manufacturer of the world’s first ultra-portable, single use, pocket sized, and fully automatic defibrillator. Dubbed the ‘PocketDefib’, this ingenious little piece of tech is an automated emergency defibrillator that’s far easier to use than any of its rivals. Able to deliver a therapeutic shock to any victim of cardiac arrest in less than twenty seconds, the device allows users to act quickly and without concern. Not only does it not demand any assembly whatsoever, but the PocketDefib requires no additional button inputs, meaning that individuals need only unwrap it, pull the paddles apart, and press it onto the victim’s chest. From there, the PocketDefib will do all the work – something that no other AED on the market can achieve to such a seamless extent. However, to explain just how the PocketDefib manages such a feat, we believe it best to let CardioThrive map out the statistics – “Our patented design and Multi-phasic waveform technology will allow our PocketDefib to deliver a therapeutic shock at only 23 joules of energy. All other AEDs use a standard bi-phasic waveform that delivers approximately 140 joules of energy. This is a significant difference. This means that our PocketDefib will be the first external defibrillator that can be used interchangeably on adults, children, or small pets without any required adjustment to the energy output.” This, in itself, demonstrates just how revolutionary the PocketDefib promises to be, with CardioThrive’s exceptional eye for innovation driving the ambitious trialling of what could potentially become a staple across various public settings. Though still under development – and awaiting regulatory approval for commercialisation – the PocketDefib is an inventive, accessible solution to a pressing issue that has yet to be addressed to such a detailed extent. No longer will individuals have to fret about not being able to help in dire circumstances; thanks to CardioThrive, using a defibrillator will be far easier than ever before. And with such universal application potential, it’s little wonder that the medical sphere is eagerly anticipating the approval of this pocket-sized lifesaver. CardioThrive is truly frontrunning the charge toward the future of cardiac arrest care, and the PocketDefib marks just one of the ways in which it’s influencing such a dramatic shift. Let us set the scene – You’re out spending a delightful evening with your friends, enjoying a round of drinks and a selection of snacks. Then, suddenly, somebody from the table behind you collapses, and it doesn’t take you long to recognise the signs of cardiac arrest. You need to act – to find a defibrillator, figure out how to operate it, and use it to try and save this person’s life – only to discover that the establishment doesn’t even own a defibrillator. Situations such as these are all too common, but there are those who are hoping to bring an end to them once and for all. CardioThrive is one such collective, whose innovative ideas hold the potential to save lives on a massive scale. Innovation in Business is deeply passionate about uplifting those who are leveraging their vision for the future to create revolutionary solutions to age old problems. CardioThrive is no different, with the manufacturing and highly anticipated approval of the PocketDefib standing as one of the industry’s greatest achievements to date. It’s for this very reason that we’re beyond proud to include CardioThrive in our Top 10 feature, and we wish it all the best in the PocketDefib’s regulatory approval process.
